To Our Just Compete Sports Families in Kansas City,
We hope this message finds you and your family enjoying the off season. As we continue building one of the most inclusive and development-focused flag football communities in the country, we’re excited to share several important updates that will impact all teams and players heading into the upcoming season.
Welcoming Girls Play Flag Football into the Just Compete Sports Family
As part of our long-term growth strategy, we are proud to officially welcome the Girls Play Flag Football program under the leadership and management of Just Compete Sports. While Girls Play will continue to operate as its own brand and maintain its distinct identity, it will now function alongside our Kansas City NFL Flag program under a unified leadership structure. This will ensure better alignment, stronger support, and more opportunity for all athletes across both programs.
We’re proud to welcome these incredible athletes, coaches, and families into our broader community and look forward to continuing to grow—together.
Program Standardization & Updated Policies for All Teams
To ensure fairness, consistency, and a level playing field across all of our Kansas City-based programs, the following standards now apply to all Just Compete Sports teams, including coed and girls programs:
1. NFL FLAG Uniform Requirement
All teams must wear NFL FLAG-branded uniforms during league play. Independent, personalized, or non-NFL-branded uniforms are no longer permitted.
If your organization fields multiple teams in different divisions (e.g., 10U and 12U), each team must be affiliated with a different NFL team and wear distinct uniforms.
2. Single Team Roster Policy
Each player must be rostered to one team only for the entire season. Players may not move between teams or divisions once the season begins.
Example: If a 10U player participates in a game with a 12U team, they must remain on that 12U roster for the rest of the season—even if age-eligible for 10U.
3. Roster Consistency Requirement
All team rosters must be finalized before the season starts and cannot be altered during the season. The submitted roster will be used for all regular season, tournament, and postseason play.
4. Team Transfer Limitations
Transfers are only permitted before or after a season. In-season transfers will be approved only in rare and extenuating circumstances, and must be formally reviewed and approved by Just Compete Sports leadership.
Recruitment, Coaching Ethics & Player Requests
-
Coach-to-Player Recruiting Is Prohibited
Coaches are not allowed to recruit players from other teams within the league. Attempts to form “all-star” or “powerhouse” teams through internal recruiting will result in disciplinary action.
-
Buddy & Coach Requests Still Allowed
Families may continue to submit buddy and coach requests during registration. We believe in helping friends and families play together—without compromising competitive balance.
-
Team Change Requests
Families may request a team change for a future season. These requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with care given to the player’s experience and overall league fairness.
Practice Expectations & Player Commitment
Just Compete Sports remains a recreational league with a competitive spirit. Each team will hold a one-hour practice immediately before their scheduled game, both occurring on the same day. We support the NFL FLAG-recommended structure of one practice and one game per week, for a total of two hours.
If a coach chooses to hold additional practices, those practices must:
-
Be free of charge
-
Be open to all players on the team
-
Be optional, with no impact on playing time if a player cannot attend
No player may be penalized for missing an extra or optional practice.
Clarifying Expectations on Outside Training & Fees
We want every family to feel that their child can participate fully—without pressure to pay additional fees or commit beyond the league structure.
If a player chooses to attend private or paid training sessions during the season, the following rules apply:
-
No coach may charge current players for extra practices or training during the active season under the name of Just Compete Sports or in connection with our leagues.
-
These sessions must be independent, and must not be presented, marketed, or implied as part of our league programming or required for participation.
-
If a coach operates a separate, established business or program not affiliated with Just Compete Sports or NFL FLAG, they are permitted to train players only if:
-
The sessions are conducted independently
-
The activities are clearly separated in writing
-
It is not conflated or bundled into Just Compete registration or expectations
Any violation of this policy may result in a formal warning or compliance action.
Our Mission Moving Forward
Just Compete Sports was founded on one core value: Compete. Always.
That doesn’t mean every player is in a competitive league—it means that every player, no matter their age or ability, is given the opportunity to compete, grow, and enjoy football in a positive and inclusive environment.
As part of that mission, we will:
-
Expand access to new tournaments and development opportunities
-
Add postseason events for teams outside of the top standings
-
Launch more clinics and training camps to build players from the ground up—not just reinforce from the top down
We believe this approach builds stronger athletes, better teammates, and thriving communities.
Thank You
Thank you for being a vital part of the Just Compete Sports family. These updates are made with every athlete in mind, and we are committed to ensuring a positive, transparent, and supportive experience for all.
If you have any questions, ideas, or feedback, we’re always here to listen and support. We’re proud of where we are—and excited about where we’re going.
With appreciation,
Miguel Zepeda
